About.com interview is up
Cory Silverberg asked me some damn good questions about Sex 2.0, and the interview is now up at About.com. An excerpt:
On your website you describe Sex 2.0 as focusing on “the intersection of social media, feminism, and sexuality.” What does that mean exactly?
I hate to give an obtuse answer, but the truth is, what it means will be different for each individual. That’s why I’m excited that we have such a diverse group of people participating; everyone will get to offer their own perspective on how these things intersect in their own lives. Attendees can expect, first of all, not to be just passive attendees! Everyone is a participant at Sex 2.0. The focus is on interaction and discussion, rather than sitting back while “experts” talk at you. One of the fundamental concepts here is that everyone has things to teach and to learn. We have sessions scheduled on topics ranging from erotic writing to queer identity online to the effects the internet has had on the escorting industry, and much, much more!
Thanks, Cory!
HOWTO: Make a Sex 2.0 condom do double-duty
Here’s a helpful tutorial regarding the nifty Sex 2.0 condoms:
I’ll spare you an angst-ridden paragraph about how I hate seeing myself on video. I’m trying to get over that.

Regina Lynn at Charis Books and More, April 11
Regina Lynn, one of our fabulous session leaders, will be at Charis Books and More, one of our fabulous sponsors, on the Friday night before Sex 2.0!
8:00-9:30pm. Regina Lynn is the weekly Sex Drive columnist at Wired.com, an author of two books about sex, and has been called one of the “top five sex experts in the U.S.” (Marie Claire). She will be joining several of her sex-writing colleagues in Atlanta for the Sex 2.0 conference, and will honor Charis with a sample of her work while she’s in town. Join Regina for a fun and provocative discussion of her most recent book, “Sexier Sex: Lessons from the Brave New Sexual Frontier,” which offers advice on ways to explore sexuality, test sexual boundaries, and get more pleasure from life. Come learn from Regina about redefining love in the information age.
Sex 2.0 condoms!
Many thanks to the fabulous Condomania for giving us a discount on these *official* Sex 2.0 condoms. We appreciate the support!
Rusty says I should make a video demonstrating how to turn a Sex 2.0 condom into a Sex 2.0 dental dam. I agree, because the last thing I would want is for Sex 2.0 to be perceived as phallocentric or heteronormative. So tomorrow maybe we’ll fire up the video camera.
Local folks, if you want some condoms to distribute around town, just let me know. We have a limited supply, and I definitely want to take some to Aphrodite’s Toybox and have plenty left over for the day of the conference; but if there’s a club or something that you think would be appropriate for promotion via condom, just let me know!
REMINDER: Hotel special rate ends Friday
Remember to reserve your room by Friday, March 21 to get the special rate for our group. Obviously you can (and should) still reserve there after the 21st, but that’s when the rate expires. And if you wait until after Friday to reserve, I think the likelihood is higher of them trying to jerk me around and make me pay for “unused rooms” that were actually used.
Note, our group code is sttstta (this should automagically be added to the group code box on the form, if you use the above link; but I’m including it so you can double-check to make sure).
Also, if you have not yet let me know if you’ve booked your room, please email me. I’m trying to keep track of how many rooms/nights are booked so that they can’t make me pay for stuff I shouldn’t have to pay for!

OMG huge list of important Sex 2.0 info
We’re slightly over a month away from Sex 2.0, so here’s a crap-ton of info for you…
TRANSPORTATION (pt. I): If you’re flying into Atlanta, you can take MARTA (North or Northeast line) from the airport to the North Avenue stop. The hotel is diagonally across the street (map here). Or you can take a cab and it should cost about $30.
TRANSPORTATION (pt. 2): We are planning to rent at least one van (possibly more, depending on how finances work out) and run shuttles between the hotel and 1763. Several local folks have also volunteered to carpool. And of course you can always take a cab or rent a car. I’ll be posting detailed directions soon, so no one should get lost! :)
LODGING: When you make your reservation at the Marriott Renaissance, please use this link. Or if you are making your reservation over the phone, be sure to specifically mention that you are with Sex 2.0 and want a room in our block. And when you check in, please remind them again that you’re with Sex 2.0.
REGISTRATION: Yes, it’s true, even people who are session leaders have to register. I wish I could comp session leaders’ entry fee, but sadly the money just isn’t there for it. (And there’s also the whole unconference thing where it’s supposed to be a lack of hierarchy… but I am not getting into one of those debates again!) Seriously though, I wish I could, but it’s simply not possible. So just a heads-up if you haven’t registered, the price is $40 until March 28.
WIFI: There will be wifi, thanks to Steve Eley’s gracious offer to bring and set up a router! Sure, it might get a bit slow at times, but what do you expect with a bunch of nerds gathered together?
PROJECTORS: There will be two digital projectors, thanks to Jennifer Williams coming to the rescue and loaning them to us! (We’re only renting one screen though… so maybe the other one can project onto a wall.) If you will need a projector for your session please let the group know as soon as possible, in case there are any conflicts.
FOOD: We’re planning to order a bunch of box lunches. We’re going to low-ball the number we order, since at PodCamp we ended up with a ton of leftover food and it wasn’t cheap. If anyone has any special dietary needs, please let me know as soon as possible. We’ll make every effort to accomodate people’s needs.
PRIVACY: The way we’re planning to handle protecting people’s privacy/identity/etc. is to use these arm bands that Chris Penn proposed.
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS: Theoretically, since it’s an unconference, everyone is supposed to be a “volunteer” to an extent — that is, make the conference what you want it to be. But there are a few places where we need people to be committed to a specific task for a certain length of time. These will include working the registration desk (probably 3 different shifts), taking the money for lunch (probably 2 people), and helping with set-up/take-down. In the next few weeks I will be able to say with more certainty what we need, and at that time I’ll post a for-real list!
POLE DANCING: There are only a few spots left for the Friday night pole dancing party, so register soon if you want to attend (women only). It will be awesome.
That’s all for now… more to come soon!
