Service project benefiting HIPS

This year we are organizing a small service project for Sex 2.0 attendees to participate in. Helping Individual Prostitutes Survive (HIPS) will be participating in the conference this year and are an excellent organization that provide much needed support to sex workers in the Washington D.C. area. Their outreach efforts serve over 8,000 sex workers per year with services such as education and counseling; emergency shelter; and distribution of safety materials, clothing, food, and personal items.

HIPS always needs donations of personal care items such as lotion, shampoo, and mouthwash. Incidentally, our conference this year is located in a hotel and our hotel rooms will be coming with handy sample sizes of these items. So, as a simple service project, we’ll be collecting donations of your hotel toiletries for HIPS so that they can be distributed to sex workers in need of them. While this project is focusing on the things we can swipe from our hotel rooms, we’ll also collect other items that HIPS can use including:

  • Any new and unused personal care item
  • Clothing
  • Cash donations

Donation boxes will be available at the Porn and Brownies event on Friday evening, at the registration table the day of the conference, and at brunch on Sunday. Thank you for taking the time to participate in Sex 2.0. Please consider embodying the spirit of the conference by making a donation of a personal care item for HIPS.

Thanks to Ellie Lumpesse, who suggested this.
