Just Announced: Author meetup Montgomery Blair Sibley

We are pleased to have Montgomery Blair Sibley join Sex 2.0 for an author meet-and-greet on Saturday from 1-1:30pm and 5:25-6:30pm in the Sex 2.0 vendor room. He will be on hand with copies of his book Why Just Her. All sales from his book go to benefit the Woodhull Foundation.

cover Why Just Her identifies the external and internal demons that drove the D.C. Madam, Deborah Jeane Palfrey, from an initially defiant woman willing to fight the government to a woman so despairing as to take her own life prior to sentencing upon her conviction for Prostitution Racketeering. Starting with the execution of search on her home and seizure warrants for her bank accounts in October 2006 through her death on May 1, 2008, the book traces Jeane’s final 20 months as the judicial system time and again failed to live up to its promise to insure ‘justice’. Instead, unwittingly sitting atop a client list of the most powerful men in the world, that system made sure that Jeane’s story would never be fully told.

About the Author
Montgomery Blair Sibley has been practicing law nationwide for 25 years with a concentration on taking on government arrogance and excess, particularly when visited upon the defenseless. He has been described by one court as a “multi-headed leviathan of litigation” and is known for wearing his Clan Blair kilt to court and “not practicing law on his knees”. Mr. Sibley has a reputation for suing anyone, regardless of status, including recently the nine Justices of the United States Supreme Court for “judicial treason”. The antithesis of the “smooze attorney,” Mr. Sibley’s radical ideas for judicial reform have made him national counsel for Jail4Judges, a broad coalition of citizens dedicated to the mission of re-instating judicial accountability.

We tried our very best and went through many revisions to try and get this right. With so many amazing session leaders and topics we fully realize that some sessions will interfere with others along a similar topic or track but we really did try our best to avoid those where possible.

We also had two sessions slots open up so we will be leaving these open for attendees to schedules sessions in the standard ‘un-conference’ model. White boards will be posted in the vendor area on Saturday morning so that people can organize sessions for those open slots.

Sex 2.0 is going to be an amazing event this year and a quick glance at the schedule will show you why. We have some truly terriffic session leaders this year and we are all just so excited for this years lineup!

Sex writer? Attending Sex 2.0?

We have many great sessions for writers, authors and bloggers this year at Sex 2.0. With our recent publication of our sessions list I wanted to make sure people were aware of Jack Murnighan’s call for writers to send in any writing samples you may have so he can integrate them into his session Sex Writing Beyond Erotica, Beyond Porn. Check out the details and Jack’s bio below. His email address is jack at nerve dot com.

Sex Writing Beyond Erotica, Beyond Porn
Why should we write about sex? And if we want to, how should we do it? This seminar will address the challenge of integrating sex and sexuality into fiction, journalism, and magazine writing, all the while avoiding all the trappings of erotica, porn, and lad-mag prurience. Of all interpersonal and cultural phenomena, sex might simultaneously be the most influential but least understood. In this seminar, we’ll approach sex with open minds and attuned bodies, seeking a mature, sophisticated sense of the psychology, personal and cultural import, nuance, and general mystery of sex for most people. Attendees are encouraged to send me samples of their sex writing beforehand (to jack at nerve dot com) so I can integrate them into our discussion. I will also provide do-and-don’t examples from real articles and give tips on how to get published by nerve.com and magazines in general.
Session leader: Jack Murnighan

mecrabshack24Jack Murnighan is the former editor-in-chief of nerve.com and now their editor-at-large. He’s published two books on sex in the history of literature (The Naughty Bits and Classic Nasty), had short stories anthologized widely (including The Best American Erotica collections of 1999, 2000, and 2001), and twice taught sex writing at the Penn Writers Conference. His newest book, Beowulf on the Beach: What to Love and What to Skip in Literature’s 50 Greatest Hits, will be released May 19, and he is currently working on a racy novel. He can be reached at jack@nerve.com.

Early bird extended 2 days!

Our mistake is your gain! Early Bird registration was to end today but an error in the ticket price switch made the system stop selling tickets this meant that no tickets could be bought today.

Our mistake is your gain as we have extended our early bird registration by two days to make up for anyone who tried to buy today but couldn’t.

Thanks to the quick to notice attendees that pointed this out.

Early Bird registration will now end April, 16th and 8am. After that tickets will go up to $40. Save $10 and register today!

*We could have another session block here but I thought we could leave our 4 rooms open for any impromptu discussions or topics that may come up. Some people may choose to break out for dinner, other can use our rooms for discussions or Meetups. The space will be made available and I will not book in advance

You will notice that there are 15minutes breaks between each session block. This is not only to allow you ample time to find your next session but I also wanted to leave time for people to chat in the hallways – we are a community after all! Running from session to session is no fun so these 15 minute gaps should be nice.

Speakers: If you prefer one time slot over another please let me know! If you have multiple sessions please let me know which slot you would like for each.

FYI: Hotel room block

As discussed on the google groups page we been informed that our reserved block of discounted rooms has been ‘sold out’. We have a call into the hotel and should have our block expanded to add more rooms by tomorrow (Thursday). While this is great news in that Sex 2.0 has booked a lot of rooms for that weekend we know that many of you have yet to do so. We, know on wood, shouldn’t have an issue extending out block of rooms.

Also, the hotel is in fact sold out of rooms on Thursday May, 7th but there are still ‘plenty of rooms‘ (so sayith the reservation lady on the phone) for Friday and Saturday nights.

I will update tomorrow once I speak to our hotel rep. I just wanted to let everyone know what I know as quickly as I could.

Thanks,
Match

Sex 2.0: Cheap travel tips

We are starting to get people registering for Sex 2.0 from all over the country so I wanted to offer some cheap travel ideas for those people planning a trip to D.C. on May 9th.

Air travel. BWI (Baltimore International) often has the cheapest air fares but it is not accessible (like Reagan is) via DC Metro. A great way to get to the hotel from BWI is to shuttle from BWI airport to BWI Amtrak station (free), then MARC train to Union Station ($6), and from there DC Metro to venue ($3).Thanks @DDog for this tip!

Bus NYC->Philly->Baltimore->DC
Amtrak is a great option but a touch pricey. Instead take the China Bus or my personal favorite the Bolt Bus! Bolt is clean, cheap and has FREE WIFI!

Hotels. Our hotel has a great room rate of $94 a night. If you group up with 2-4 people (2 queen beds and some snuggling) you can dramatically save. Join our google groups if you need to find some roomies!

Early Bird registration of course the quickest and easiest way to save is to take part in Early Bird registrations. Fees go up in April! Register today and save. http://sex20con.eventbrite.com

Remember, Sex 2.0 is all day Saturday but many attendees are planning their own satellite events around Sex 2.0. Events are being planned for Friday afternoon, Friday evening, Saturday evening, Saturday night and even two events on Sunday. So make a weekend of it and join us! Check out our attendee sponsored events page here

Please feel free to re-blog this article!
